About AZ SUP

“SUP is the source. It’ll change your life!” -loosely adapted from Point Break (but quite in line with my feelings)

In short order, the family and I have become completely addicted to stand up paddling and have found great benefits from getting involved – enhanced fitness, fun, great social opportunity, quality family time and just time on the water which is always good.

If you are not familiar with SUP or stand up paddling, the basic idea is that you have a very large, very stable surfboard (or paddle board) and a long paddle similar to a canoe paddle. You stand on the board and paddle on one side switching every so often. Around the world, there are many different facets to SUP (surfing, flat water racing, downwind (or with the waves) racing, whitewater paddling, touring and more). In Arizona, we do have a variety of places to paddle but with no surf, our paddling is pretty much limited to flat water paddling and touring.

The goal here is to create community among Arizona SUP folks, spread the SUP word, help new folks with resources to get paddling and to just get folks out to try it. We’ve been pretty involved with the Arizona social media community over the past several years and would like to use some of those same principles to get people paddling – tweet ups, free, community, etc.

We’ll be focused on the paddling aspects of SUP, not really SUP fitness or SUP yoga.

More to come soon!
