To SUP in Tempe Town Lake, you need a permit. A permit costs $25/year for Tempe residents and $50/year for non-residents. Unfortunately it just went up in July. If you do get a permit, another consideration is the date when you get it. If you get it toward the beginning of the month, you’ll have some more days for your money as it expires on the last day of a given month.
To get a permit, you can go either of 2 places.
One place is the Tempe Parks and Recreation office at:

It’s on the 2nd floor of the Tempe Library. To get there, head in the main library doors and take the elevator you see immediately on your left. Head on up to the 2nd floor and when you get out start walking toward the right, you’ll see the office up on the right behind a big glass window. You can go in there and fill out your papers and get your permit same day.
